2 WORK PROGRAMME 2003/04
Features of the 2003/04 work programme will include:
- The development of a theme that will be manifest
in all aspects of the Council’s programme, including its research
programme. Reflecting the designation of 2003 as the International
year for People with Disabilities the programme theme for 2003/04
is 'Promoting the Rights of Service Users with Disabilities.'
- The initiation of a limited number of new projects
in areas outside of the programme theme.
- A continued focus on membership support and
development and an emphasis on maximising the contribution of
the membership to the Council’s overall work programme.
- An emphasis on the use of technology to improve
communication between the Councils and the range of groups representing
service users throughout the Southern area.
- A continued focus on meeting our obligations
under Section75 of the Northern Ireland Act, and the implementation
of the Council’s New TSN Action Plan
- Work with the other Health and Social Services
Councils to promote public debate on the future mechanisms for
representing the views and interests of service users.
3 PROGRAMME
THEME – ‘PROMOTING THE RIGHTS OF SERVICE USERS WITH DISABILITIES’
Work on this theme will include:
- Completion of a research project on the needs
of learning disabled school leavers.
- Work on the implementation of the recommendations
on the joint Health and Social Services Councils’ report on Prosthetics
Services completed in 2002.
- A review of the implementation of the recommendations
of the SHSSC/SHSSB report 'The Wheelchair Service - the experiences
and perceptions of users' completed in 1999.
- Inclusion of services aimed at people with disabilities
in the Council's visiting programme. Visits to generalist services
will continue and include a focus on how the needs of service
users with disabilities are met.
- A focus on disability access as part of a fact
finding project on access to NHS general dental services.
